Youth Committee
Three major Finnish sports associations have established a youth committee in co-operation. The youth committee started its activities in the beginning of 2006.
The Finnish youth committee consists of 10 young active sports volunteers, who all interact in different sports clubs and organizations around Finland. The committee is a quango as it operates very independently. The Young Finland Association, Finnish Sports Office and the Finnish Olympic Committee are working in the background but the 10 members of the youth committee make their decisions by themselves.
The aim of the Finnish youth committee is to activate young Finns into sports and also into decision-making in different sports organizations. With a view to originate new possibilities to actually do sports and have possibilities to interact in policy-making, the youth committee also wants to courage other youngsters to make use of these opportunities. One aim is to create a network of active young people.
Youth are encouraged to take part in sports organizations. They are given more opprtunities to influence the decision making in their own sports clubs and at federal level. Committees job is to offer a large variety of different sorts of sports related events, come togethers and so on. It is also important for the committee to make itself known throughout the sportsfield in Finland and to built a strong network both in Finland and internationally.
We feel that the youth should be able to make their own decisions and have more power in deciding questions related to them.
We are convinced that if the are more youths deciding 'the big issues', that will result in attracting more youngsters to do sports.
We believe that we should keep things simple and try to contain an easy going grip to projects. When things are done in a laid back style, youths attention will be guaranted.
Youth Committee has representative(s) for example in Finnish Sports Office committee's and in the board of Young in Finland.
Youth Committee has taken part in numerous national and international events including
UEFA Fair Play Congress 2007,European Youth and Sport Forum 2006 (Pajulahti,Finland), European Youth and Sport Forum 2007 (Bonn), Finnish Sports Office EU-seminar 2006. Youth Committee will also play a role in EYOF (European Youth Olympic Festivals = Olympics for juniors) 2009 held in Tampere, Finland.
International collaboration is one of the youth committee's orientations now and in the future. We are truly honoured to be a part of this project here in Italy.
